Our Master of Science in Organizational Psychology (MSOP) program builds expertise in the theory, research, and practical application of key topics in industrial-organizational psychology that impact people in organizations.
The MSOP empowers students to develop core knowledge and skills in critical thinking, analysis, communication, consultation, and leadership needed to enhance organizational effectiveness and employee well-being. The MSOP prepares you to lead, manage, and consult with dynamic and diverse organizations operating in a global environment. Our curriculum provides a core foundation in industrial-organizational psychology and organizational behavior, skill in research design and analysis, and practice developing and applying solutions to address interpersonal, group, and organizational issues. Numerous elective courses in organizational psychology, business, analytics, and communication allow you to tailor your graduate experience to meet your individual learning and professional goals.
Our students and alumni apply evidence-based psychology and business practices to enhance organizational leadership, management, and employee experiences across a variety of work settings and industries. You will engage in individual scholarship and teamwork with colleagues through your coursework. Our curriculum aligns with the SIOP guidelines for education and training in I-O psychology, providing you with a strong foundation in critical analysis, interpretation, and application of research to address real-world problems.
Both on-ground and online students are encouraged to connect with our community of student colleagues and alumni professionals. Virtual and in-person events and networking opportunities are available. Both online and in-person students can apply for graduate teaching and research assistantship roles after starting the program.

The Organizational Psychology program is a 36-credit program with five required courses (15 credits) and student choice of seven elective courses (21 credits). With approval, up to two electives may be in General Psychology (0-6 credits) and up to three electives may be from the Barney School of Business (0-9 credits).

The Capstone course (PSY 625 – 3 credits) is required for all online MSOP students and is a culminating degree option for on-campus students. This option should be seriously considered by students who are working full-time and who wish to apply organizational material in their current job settings. Capstone projects may be completed in either a seven-week or 14-week course timeline, chosen by the student.
The Capstone project emphasizes individual study of the literature and application of researched findings to a workplace problem. Final products include scholarly literature reviews and an applied component that aligns with the student’s topic selection and researched findings. Students will complete individual Capstone projects with the support of an advising faculty member and a small group of student colleagues.
The Internship option (PSY 680 – 3 credits) is available for on-campus students who wish to obtain practical experience in an organizational setting for degree credit. Internships are recommended for students who need additional, applied work experience and may not already be employed full-time. Securing an approved internship placement is the students’ responsibility. All students are encouraged to take advantage of internship opportunities to obtain valuable applied experience during their graduate training. Internships for degree credit are only available to on-campus students.

Assistant Professor Stephanie Tavarez founded a research and practitioner lab called SHINE, which stands for Shaping Human Interaction, Nurturing Diversity, and Enhancing Employability. The goal of its staff researchers is to unify theoretical insights on employability with real-world applications. Tavarez and her SHINE Lab colleagues worked on an exclusive consulting project in conjunction with a non-profit organization called InclusionBridge, dedicated to empowering students with an interest in data science. SHINE provided the group with free essential skills education and training.
SHINE was motivated by an ambition to bridge the employability gap. Our research delves deep into the nuances of human interaction, aiming to produce pragmatic solutions that advocate for diversity and equip individuals with tools to enhance their employability beyond just the academic space.

Students interested in pairing their Organizational Psychology training with MBA coursework may apply for our Dual Degree program to earn both the MSOP and MBA in a streamlined 20-course degree plan, available both online and on-ground.
